Children's and Youth Club "Raduga" (means "Rainbow" in Russian) is the only club of its kind in Arkhangelsk. It provides supplementary education for children and teenager of the age of seven to eighteen. For the moment it is about nine hundred children and teenagers who attend the Club. No fee is taken. The Club also works with children with limited abilities and has connection with the most of schools, children gardens and other youth organizations in the city.

Besides its regular studies the Club organizes other actions, such as creative competitions for all children of the city or entertainments for children with limited abilities.
The Club was established at 1967, when such kind of children's and youth clubs where all over the city. When Gorbachev's Reformation came, all the clubs where reduced in maintenance and were soon closed. Our club was saved through efforts of its headmistress Natalya Kapitanova, who managed to find a sponsorship to support the Club. From 1995 the Club belongs to the City Department of Education.
The Club "Raduga" is seeking for other children's and youth institutions (schools, clubs) to establish a partnership that would be advantageous and effective for both sides.
International cooperation
The Club had some experience of international cooperation in the past. There was a class of international friendship where children studied English language, communicated with friends from abroad and travelled to foreign countries.
In 1991 our club invited a youth football team from Spain to visit Arkhangelsk and stage a match with our team. Arrival of the Spanish youth football team "Valencia" to our city and a football match between Spanish and Russian youth teams was a remarkable event and it proved that the Club is able to organize an international projects.
Nowadays the Club "Raduga" is seeking for other children's and youth institutions (schools, clubs) to establish a partnership that would be advantageous and effective for both sides.
We do not have any English courses in our club now, so projects where children from different countries communicate with each other are not possible for us, but we can participate in the art or sport projects. Of all the arts our children are very skilled in clay moulding and traditional decorative northern painting on wooden material. |
